Kankaku Exhibition #4

"The feelings embedded in the work"

Would you like to exhibit your artwork at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum?

The "Kankaku Exhibition" is accepting submissions of all forms of expression, regardless of genre or technique.

This exhibition brings together diverse artists from Japan and abroad, creating an international exhibition where their individual sensibilities resonate with one another. "Kankaku" refers to the very "power to feel" inherent in a work of art, encompassing not only the five senses—sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch—but also the sixth sense, such as intuition and inspiration. We invite you to express the unique and distinctive kankaku embedded in your work here. This is a place where diverse kankaku intersect, giving rise to new perspectives. We sincerely look forward to your participation.

Spatial Art TORAM

"A place for new endeavors"

TORAM, a spatial art space, is a creative crossroads where diverse forms of expression intersect. Professionals and amateurs from Japan and abroad gather here, and a wide variety of works, including paintings, videos, and installations, resonate with one another. For artists, it's a place of challenge and growth; for visitors, it's an experience of "discovery," where they encounter new talent. TORAM offers an open space where you can not only "view" art, but also "feel, think, and connect" with it.

Fukuoka, a hub for exchange with Asia

Given its geographical and historical characteristics as a gateway for the reception of Asian culture since ancient times, Fukuoka City has historically played a central role as a hub city for Asian exchange for many years. The Fukuoka Asian Art Museum was established in 1999 as one of Fukuoka City's pioneering initiatives for exchange with Asia. Since then, it has attracted attention from Japan, Asia, and the world through the following activities.

The world's only museum specializing in modern and contemporary Asian art.

The Fukuoka Asian Art Museum is the only museum in the world that systematically collects and exhibits modern and contemporary Asian art. These works are neither imitations of Western art nor repetitions of tradition; they transcend the conventional boundaries of "art," created by artists living in the ever-changing "present" of Asia, imbued with heartfelt messages. The museum's extensive and high-quality collection of modern and contemporary Asian art possesses a unique charm and appeal unlike any other museum in the world.

A place for creative exchange and sharing

The Fukuoka Asian Art Museum has functioned as a place where people can become familiar with Asian art and culture through various art exchanges, such as inviting Asian artists and researchers to stay and create works in residence, and researching Asian art.It is an interactive museum that aims not only to bring together Fukuoka, Japan, and Asia, and between local residents and art-related people, but also to foster mutual understanding, collaboration, and the creation and dissemination of ideas.

A lively art museum in the city.

The Fukuoka Asian Art Museum is located in the heart of Fukuoka and Hakata, where the city's energy swirls. It is an urban museum that allows people living in this city to access the "present" of Asia through Asian art in the shortest possible way. Asian artists, in turn, utilize the unique locations and methods of expression of the city to reach out to the people who live there.
