Since then, instead of having its own collection, it has been operating as an art center where people can experience and learn about various forms of artistic expression and recognize diverse values. Fukuoka Prefectural Museum of Art (Tenjin, Fukuoka)

On November 3, 1964, Culture Day, the Fukuoka Prefectural Cultural Hall, the predecessor of our current museum, opened in Susaki Park in Tenjin, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, as a complex facility housing an art museum and a library. The building was designed by architect Takeo Sato (1899-1972), who was working on numerous public buildings at the time.

The museum has held numerous exhibitions, and among them, the "Tutankhamun Exhibition," held the year after its opening, attracted approximately 590,000 visitors. The queue of people waiting to enter stretched all the way to Susaki Park, creating a crowd that swirled around the fountain multiple times. In addition, the museum has organized its own exhibitions based on meticulous research into modern Western-style painting, Japanese-style painting, sculpture, and crafts.
